Located in the rapidly growing Blythewood area, Richland School District Two’s Muller Road Middle School is designed to grow with its community, starting with an initial population of 1,050 students. The building is oriented north-south on the 17-acre site to maximize daylighting in all major learning and public spaces, and features sustainable principles including energy-efficient mechanical systems, local and recycled materials, and indigenous landscape.
The design is organized around a large courtyard with outdoor learning and teaching spaces, including a pavilion and landscaped areas. Three academic wings with flexible, collaborative central spaces provide diversity of learning options. A planned area for a future center magnet program is included on-site.
