“One of the most exciting aspects of architecture is being able to gather the data needed to develop a plan, but also in conducting interviews with people to gain their insights so that we can find a design solution to improve their ability to work, live or play.”

Kat grew up on Long Island, New York, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. She completed her Masters in Architecture in May 2025 from Clemson University. She was inspired to pursue architecture because her parents were teachers.
Risola says she is especially drawn to designing spaces that help people experience their lives more fully, particularly in working on the innovative education projects that Quackenbush is known for. “I’m fascinated by the process of incorporating sustainable practices throughout all phases of design. Having both my parents as teachers, I saw the passion they brought into the classroom each day. Their commitment inspires me to design environments that support and uplift both students and educators.”
