USC Practice Facility

The University of South Carolina

Completion Date
1995

Project Budget
$4.5 Million

Conceived functionally and visually as an extension of the USC Coliseum, the Practice Facility is a quiet companion to its iconic neighbor and borrows that structure's exterior base material and massing. The interior volume is partially under grade, reinforcing its subjugation to the venerable venue. The facility serves as both a basketball practice gym and volleyball competition facility, and includes office suites for each of the coaching staffs. Bridging the two areas is a two story, light-filled atrium featuring a monumental stair and sculptural balcony connecting the two exterior grades and providing much needed daylighting into the interior of the building.
