The University of South Carolina expanded its Tennis facilities with new team spaces by utilizing shell area beneath the existing stadium. With chamfered building edges, the design draws inspiration from the court access points, allowing dynamic circulation and gathering opportunities in what would have otherwise been a narrow orthogonal space. The design provides the men’s and women’s teams with state-of-the-art locker rooms, lounges and restrooms. The teams share a training room with therapy tubs and a meeting room with extensive AV equipment to enrich the experience of the student athletes. Branding and graphics enhance the architecture as well as reflect the University’s pride and tradition. The walls of the lounges become central design features for an expanded Gamecock logo and are canopied by a gridded wood ceiling that provides a sense of warmth. A perforated steel branding wall in the meeting room is featured by curved lighting fixtures that follow the seating array.
