The Charles R. Drew Wellness Center stands along the prominent North Harden Street corridor as an iconic expression of the City of Columbia’s commitment to community well-being and revitalization. Developed as part of an ambitious initiative led by the Columbia Housing Authority, the facility integrates into the fabric of the Celia Saxon neighborhood and supports a healthier, more vibrant community life.

“Outward reaching” roof forms denote each major program element, rendered in glass, steel, and red brick. The short-course, Olympic-sized pool sits behind glass walls facing Harden Street, putting the activity on view along this busy street. Other elements in the 40,000-square-foot facility include a basketball and volleyball gymnasium, cardio and weight rooms, and an interior jogging track.
