This classroom building addition at the Northeast Technology Campus serves as the home of Midlands Technical College’s Engineering and Science departments, featuring teaching labs and classrooms focused on clean energy technology, biotechnology, and advanced manufacturing in support of the college’s regional research partners. The design integrates with the existing campus while responding to elements of the site, including a large pond that defines a “natural classroom” at the rear of the building.

The 68,000-square-foot facility incorporates student-centered casual spaces that encourage social interaction and collaboration. Flexibility and adaptability are central design concepts, allowing for changes in mission and technology. Classrooms receive generous amounts of daylighting as an aid to student performance. The project has achieved LEED Gold certification.
