This classroom addition supports Richland School District One’s language immersion program, conceived as three academic “houses,” each containing classrooms and flexible learning areas for a specific language. The design prioritizes a flexible and immersive linguistic experience, with operable partitions that allow classrooms to open to one another or to adjacent extended learning areas.
The 30,000-square-foot addition provides multipurpose space for instruction and group activities, with direct connections to outdoor learning areas from each extended learning zone. Visual connections between spaces and abundant daylighting create an environment that supports learning and reinforces the objectives of the language immersion program.
