The design for this new Charleston County elementary school draws from Johns Island’s landscape and heritage, taking cues from Indigenous building forms and the character of the island’s natural environment. Significant live oak trees and wetlands on the site are treated as amenities rather than obstacles, shaping a two-story plan that organizes safe, secure outdoor learning spaces woven into the surrounding ecology.

The 91,000-square-foot facility will accommodate 700 students in grades 2 through 5, with core infrastructure sized to support future expansion to 900 students via an additional classroom wing. The architecture reflects regional materials and forms specific to the Lowcountry.
