Freshman Housing (Elvington Property)

This new student housing complex comprised of Tradition Hall, Chanticleer Hall, Teal Hall, and Singleton-Young Hall, expands the northern boundary of the Coastal Carolina University Campus and is designed specifically for the underclassman population it serves. One thousand two hundred and seventy students are accommodated in communities ranging from thirty-six to forty beds per resident assistant. Each RA community includes four “community suites” grouped around a common social space. In addition, each building has its own community wing with a large lounge, laundry, multi-purpose room, RD office and apartment, workrooms, and recycling center. Tradition Hall includes several additional community assets, including multi-purpose rooms, a large conference room, Residential Life office suite, RHA workroom, convenience store, kitchen, and two additional staff apartments. The design features a large central green space incorporating two pre-existing ponds and carefully preserved mature oak and maple trees. Site amenities include a new activity pavilion and sand volleyball court. The exterior character extends the traditional Georgian style on campus with the use of red masonry, white trim and columns, and matching roof shingles. The project is designed in collaboration with Mackey Mitchell Architects. This project has achieved LEED Silver.
